School meals for pupils
The First Lady of Uganda and Minister of Education and Sports Mrs. Museveni has constantly pleaded with parents and school administrators to provide meals to pupils to better their learning.
The school management has taken the ministerial message with great concern. School provides breakfast and lunch meals of balanced diet to pupils during school time.
This has been possible through a school initiative “lets feed from our own.” The land at school and in other places owned by the organization has been a very valuable asset. It has been put to full use in terms of farming. The school gardens comprise of sweet potatoes, maize, bananas, beans, eggplants and vegetables. However the school supplements the farm produce with purchases from markets during times of shortage or off season periods.
The class programmes and other activities are never interrupted like in other schools where pupils fail to attend classes because their parents are unable to pack food for them. Parents have greatly applauded school management for the move. “It has improved pupils concentration in class, eliminated social inequalities among children, saved working class parents from the hustle of preparing meals for their children every morning” a group of parents remarked.
